I have updated the movies list in this blog, and the plan is to have 15 movies by the end of this summer (I’m waiting for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

My favorite movies are just too many for Blogger to handle, so I divide the list to 4 separate lists: personal blog, friendster profile, secret blog, and this blog. The list here will have 15 movies between year 1995-2005, and I don’t intend to change the list for some time after all 15 have been listed. The other three list will fluctuate since Blogger has limited capacity and two of my lists are placed there.

Okay, what made (or will make) the top 15 here? They are 15 of my all-time favorites, and almost all are made through independent channel. They all have different directors, and different actors, at least on the leading parts. Some were made outside the US, and the majority was made outside Hollywood. Since they are independent, they produced some of the most ingenious script, the most innovative storytelling, and the most daring and fresh acting. Only a few received mainstream awards (such as Oscar), and almost all received at least one non-mainstream recognition (i.e., Sundance, Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB).

Why do I picked the 15 to be listed here? Well, I try to diversify the list by including foreign films and avoid similarities between directors, actors, genres, and storylines as much as possible in order to depict a more diversified picture of my interest to non-mainstream films. And why independents? I’m not saying that I don’t like popular films, after all I considered myself a movie buff, but independent films seem to fit better with the tone of this blog. And at the same time, they set the right mood for the blog in general. So, it’s more like an effort to self-identify and self-branding for the blog, and for myself to some degree.
